DayBreak Summer Ministry Oppurtunity!!! (Written by Julia Van Der Werf)

DayBreak is gearing up for busy summer of ministry in Lincoln Heights and we would love for you to be involved. Starting next Monday, we will be hosting a 7 week summer day camp for elementary age children which will be facilitated by the 5 summer interns that started work at DayBreak on June 1st and 5 mission teams that will be coming from all over the country to get hands on experience in the inner city. Our theme this summer is going to be "Family" and we will be diving into lessons that focus on both our earthly families and God's family. We are very excited about what God is going to do in and through us as we pour into the lives of the children God sends us this summer.

SO, WHAT DO WE NEED FROM YOU????

There are two weeks that we do not have mission teams: July 6th-10th and July 13th-17th. Due to the active nature of our students, we must have volunteers assist us or we will not be able to effectively facilitate camp. If you have a flexible schedule and are willing to give us a morning, a whole day or even a whole week, please consider. Details are as follows:

When: Any day during the week of July 6th-10th and Monday, July 13th, Wednesday, July 15th and Friday, July 17th. 8:15am-4:30pm. Serving a whole day is ideal, but the mornings are when we need the volunteers the most.

Where: Lincoln Heights- 5017 Banks Place NE Washington, DC 20019

What you will be doing: Assisting the staff at DayBreak with Bible lessons, crafts and games, and recreation time. Going to the pool or on field trips with the students in the afternoon.

Why: Because you believe that God can reach the next generation of students with the Good News of the Gospel and He wants to use you!

Please, please please contact Becky Weeks at rebecca.weeks@mcleanbible.org or 202-396-5710 if you are interested in serving.

Speak for Me

so i have a bedtime playlist on Playlist.com and this song has been on it for a while, but i normally just skip over it. but tonight, to be completely honest, i was too lazy to switch browsers to change it so i listened to it, and i was overwhelmed by the lyrics. the music is great but its nothing extraordinary, but in all seriousness, the words are what matter anyway. I am officially declaring this my summer song, because this song defines what i am all about this summer. letting God give me what i need in order to reach those that he loves so much. i could go on and on and on because - as many of you know - i enjoy ranting about stuff, but i'm too tired, lol so i'm going to post they lyrics and let them speak for themselves.

goodnight all. I'll get around to blogging trip details soonage. <3 >
What have I to offer to a world in need?
Yet, for some unknown reason, you have chosen me.
Lord, you’ve set my journey, you’ve prepared the way.
Still, I’m desp’rate for the words to say,
and ’all I am is willing; all I have is in your hands.’
Speak for me; this my plea. Say the words I can’t express.
Sing for me a heavenly melody That the people will be blessed.
Speak for me.
Ev’ry brief encounter that you send my way
Is a chance to show the love you gave me.
I see their troubled faces, a hunger deep inside
But I depend on you to touch their lives.
Light what burns within me, let your truth shine through my life.
Speak for me; this my plea.
Say the words I can’t express.
Sing for me a heavenly melody That the people will be blessed.
Speak for me. Sing for me, set me free, They will see your holiness.
Speak for me. ’cause your love will lead them on to heaven’s gate
Where they can look upon your face.
Light what burns within me, let your truth shine through my life.
speak for me; this my plea. Say the words I can’t express.
Oh, this is my plea (sing for me) a heavenly melody
That the people will be blessed.

Speak for me. Sing for me, set me free, And they will see your holiness.
Speak for me, sing for me, speak for me. You’re all I have to offer to a world in need. oh...

the night before life goes on...

ok so in 10 hours and 15 minutes (from the time i'm starting this blog) my train will be pulling out of the train station and heading towards dc...well not exactly DC, i'm stopping halfway there to see LaShonda and have some wicked sweet pictures taken and get some food. but i'll be leaving for the summer in 10 hours and 15 min and to be completely honest, i'm not as nervous as i thought i would be. i was ready to be freaking out all night and not being able to sleep and just wanting to go take some Tylenol PM so i could fall asleep, but in all honesty, as soon as i finish this, i'm gonna crash, i am exhausted!

but i will say this, the train station in Burlington, NC is one of the most ridiculous places on this planet!!! the picture to the left of the text is all of the luggage that i'm allowed to have...for 10 weeks!! one bag, one backpack, and my guitar...WHAT THE HAYSTACK!!!! i mean really? every other friggen train station in NC and the surrounding states - that i know of -  have a freakin checked baggage car to the train...why not burlington??? if they did i could have twice the luggage, but NOOOOO they had to be complicated, but oh well.

i'm sure that there is a lesson to be learned from living out of one bag of clothing for two and a half months...the simplicity of life? less is more? don't take a train out of Burlington, North Carolina?? i'm not sure what the lesson will be but i'm sure that there is one...i will let you know what it is when i figure it out.

anyway, so i should be arriving in Washington, DC at Union Station at roughly 8 pm tomorrow...big city at night...wonderful. though i'm sure that after being on a train all day, i wont even notice, and i'll probably go straight to sleep when i get to my host home...

speaking of my host home, i'm pretty sure that i have the best one. I'm staying with a woman named Nakiesha who lives alone in a 3 bedroom house. i'll have my own bedroom, we'll share a bathroom but i mean, i lived in a dorm for a year with 70-80 other girls, i'm sure sharing a bathroom with one other girl wont be an issue. but yeah, the best part of that is that i dont have to pay her for it at all. now, i'm gonna help her around the house and cook dinner and such, but she's not asking me for anything. how great is that??? i get to sit back and relax after working all day....

ugh about that, any of you who know me know that i'm not exactly the best at getting up early, and i've had to withdraw from 2 7:40 classes because i never woke up in time...well guess what time Amber has to be at work every morning....7 freakin 45!! what the heck! i work 745 to 530 every day. if nothing else, i'll be able to take 740 classes again...HAH!!! yeah right. i am NEVER taking another 740...i probably shouldnt say that, but i don't plan on taking another one, unless its a class i really like or one with someone i care enough about to make me get up and get to class for.

but yeah, so...now it's T - Minus 9 hours and  50 minutes until i will be riding off on the amtrak train...which don't even get me started on that...trains scare the sweet nibblets out of me!! but at least there will be an electrical outlet and food so i can watch movies on my laptop...

next time i'm on here, i will be writing to you from Washington, DC - about 2 miles from the White House =]
